In Japan, Southern Islands was released to coincide with the second Pokemon movie, the set came as a decorated folder with cards, postcards and 3 booster packs. The english expansion was released in July 2001, with 18 cards. The English expansion of this set had the cards in a Neo Series design while the Japanese version had the cards in the old Base-Rocket Design. The cards in the Japanese set were the only ones of Generation II to be featured in Base-Rocket Styled cards, and Slowking the only non-Generation I evolved Pokemon to have had a square evolution box. Cards in this set don’t have rarity symbols and English expansion was numbered in the same fashion as Wizards Black Star Promos. The best card to grab in this set is the Mew #1, a reverse holo Mew card with a purple galaxy foil adding colour to the cards design.
